Much like Adolf Hitler's Germany, these particular governments need an object to hate. In Germany, it was the Jews. In Russian and now parts of America, it is the gay population. I suppose, one could draw out the anthology as well that there is very little difference between the National Socialist German Workers Party, NSDAP, and the Republican Party, GOP. Both have/had similar objectives: A constant state of war with other nations, and marginalizing and discrimination against a segment of their population for no other reason then to appease their base, and draw attention away from true problems. Both the Nazi's and the GOP have put business over people, no matter the cost to the common man and woman.
Since the Supreme Court of the United States is about to legalize Marriage Equality throughout the nation, these petty, self-righteous, unamerican states, have to "fight" back! They lost the big battle, so they are launching new attacks on their fellow Americans. You see, they (The GOP) don't like the Constitution very much, well, except that holy 2nd Amendment that "guarantees," their right to bear firearms. THAT they worship as a holy grail. So, it's only most of the Constitution they hate. Things such as equal treatment under the law, well, that, just isn't to their liking, so they do stupid stuff like passing these new laws.
Either all men and women are created equal or none of us are. Thomas Jefferson, a founding father of this nation, once said, that Religion was the last refuge of the scoundrel and that it was poisonous to a free society. He was NOT alone in that belief. I think his words over 200 years later are proven correct. The GOP has been morphed into the religious right; much like some civilian governments have been swallowed up by ISIS and other radical Islamist factions throughout the Middle East. In fact, it is also hard to tell the difference between the Christian Right-Wing and radical Islam. Sure, they aren't pushing gay people off rooftops, yet, but I bet you they'd liked too. After all, a California Attorney is trying to get a "Kill the Gays," law passed in California! So, in a way, there is NO difference between the two.
We are quick to express outrage over what is done "over there," but what about what is happening in our own backyard that actually has an impact on our fellow Americans? Where is the outrage and the movement to stop the entire GOP? The people put the entire Congress into the hands of the Republican Party and its Teabaggers, and this is the result. They have not only proven they can't govern, but now they have proved that they are quite willing to put their prejudices, hatred, and ignorance into law. In fact, Ted Cruz, the first Gopper to run for President, has already said, "if elected, he will 'repeal' marriage equality. Hmm, if the SCOTUS declares it legal, then the only thing he can do is to get a Constitutional Amendment passed to overturn the Supreme Court. Since not even the Equal Rights Amendment for women passed all the states, I doubt he and his fascist party could get such an amendment as this passed.
It is not only the responsibility of the GLBT community to make sure a Democrat is elected President in the next election, it is the responsibility of every right-thinking American, who loves this country AND its Constitution. We are all responsible for what is done in our name. Finally, we MUST keep religion and government separate. To do otherwise is to invite the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and ISIS to run this country, albeit in American form. It's also quite passed the time to tax churches, as they have long forgone their purpose and have repeatedly ventured into politics. Who has the nerve to do what is right in this case?
